THE INVISIBLE POET: MIQUEL BAUÇÀ

This investigation of the life and work of Majorcan poet Miquel Bauçà (1940-2004) is structured as an non-alphabetical dictionary of images. Fictional fragments, archival excerpts and interviews are subject to a variety of visual effects-in sepia, black and white and colour. These sequences serve to illustrate key aspects of Bauçà's life: his relationship with his father and the death of his mother; his years at the seminary and his military service on the island of Cabrera; his first years in Barcelona, where he wrote some of his masterpieces; his attempts at normality-marrying, becoming a father, and ultimately separating; his return to Majorca, where he would live in a caravan; and his later years, with his compulsive writing of vast book-dictionaries and his total invisibility in the heart of Barcelona. A number of his poems and texts are here dramatically re-enacted, including Una bella història, Les mirsines, Carrer Marsala, El vellard, El canvi and Els somnis. The connecting thread is a character played by Pep Tosar, who is researching the life and work of Miquel Bauçà, but who also becomes Bauçà himself.
